Title
AI Based system for Identification, Categorisation and Monitoring of Assets using Drone Imagery
Goal
Developing an AI-based system capable of analysing drone-captured footage to identify, categorise and monitor various objects and features of interest over time.
Description
Project Aim To develop an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) system capable of analysing drone-captured imagery to automatically identify, categorise, and monitor objects and features of interest over time. With the growing adoption of drone technology for infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring, and asset management, there is a need for scalable, automated solutions to process and interpret large volumes of aerial imagery. Manual analysis is labour-intensive and susceptible to human error. This would significantly increase the efficiency of the Uncrewed Vehicle Systems (UVS) capability on AWE sites. Scope The project will be responsible for developing an AI-based system capable of analysing drone-captured footage to identify, categorise and monitor various objects and features of interest over time. AWE has a large volume of drone imagery that could be provided to support the project. Objectives will include: - Training an AI model using drone imagery to recognise and categorise general objects (e.g. buildings, vehicles, vegetation) - Further training the model to detect specific features of interest (e.g. rust, roof damage). - Enabling temporal comparison of images to detect changes, while minimising false positives due to environmental factors - Developing real-time processing capabilities for feature identification and categorisation (Stretch goal)
