Description
- The widespread use of handheld devices, social media and digital applications among students presents both opportunities and challenges in modern education. They support communication, collaboration, information retrieval and interactive learning. However, their uncontrolled use can become a significant source of distraction in the classroom.
This project aims to design and implement a context-aware smart classroom framework that transforms students' personal digital technologies from potential sources of distraction into purposeful learning tools. The proposed framework will consider the current learning context that include the course, topic, learning objectives, classroom or laboratory environment, instructor's activities and tasks being performed by students. Based on this context, the framework will dynamically identify and recommend appropriate digital resources, applications, social-media activities, collaborative tasks, and other technology-enabled learning interactions.
A prototype will be developed and evaluated across different learning scenarios including conventional classrooms, laboratories, group activities and practical sessions. The project will investigate whether context-aware technology integration can improve student engagement and learning while reducing inappropriate digital distraction. The proposed framework ultimately seeks to demonstrate that the challenge posed by ubiquitous digital devices and social media in education can be addressed not simply by restricting their use but by intelligently incorporating them into the learning process.
