Title
-
Developing for screen readers and other assistive technologies
-
Goal
-
Present a masterclass practical exercise on how websites and applications can be developed in a way that supports screen readers and other assistive technologies.
-
Description
- With how dependent we now are on computers, developing digital systems which support various interaction methods is a crucial consideration. Websites and applications need to be navigable by keyboard for users unable to use a mouse; support screen readers and braille readers with accurate description for users with vision impairments; etc.
This masterclass will explore assistive technologies and how we can support them in the digital systems we create. It will cover how these technologies help users with disabilities and how they are interfaced with through software, as well as considerations we should take when designing user interfaces. It will also include a practical exercise to demonstrate the importance of good support and create a simple accessibility feature.
