Title
The Development of an Immersive Digital Twin of the Heriot-Watt University Presence in Kazakhstan
Goal
Description
Educational institutions are increasingly exploring immersive virtual environments and digital twin technologies to extend their physical learning environments into persistent digital spaces. This project aims to design and implement an immersive 3D digital twin of the Heriot-Watt University presence in Aktobe Kazakhstan. The project will partially develop a 3D virtual representation of the campus including key buildings, classrooms, laboratories, offices, common areas and other related facilities. Digital twin architecture will be designed to connect the virtual environment with selected real-world information and services, allowing appropriate physical-world changes and activities to be reflected within the virtual environment. The framework will implement a number virtual world characteristics such as persistent user identities, virtual avatars, spatial representation, real-time data communication, synchronization and navigation with a particular emphasis on non-conventional methods such as flying and teleporting. The project will investigate suitable technologies for virtual world development, 3D modeling, digital twin synchronization, real-time communication, identity management, and user interaction. The prototype will be evaluated based on parameters such as accuracy and responsiveness of digital-twin synchronization, usability and immersion, system performance and scalability.
