Background
-
As humans we are constantly, and usually subconsciously, attempting to judge the mood of those with whom we interact, and we do so with varying levels of success. Affective computing faces the similar challenge of enabling autonomous systems to estimate the internal states of their human users so that these systems can, like we do with people whom we encounter in our day, try to judge their mood. Systems can use such information to inform their approach to interacting with their human interlocutors.
