Title
Dubai Traffic Simulations for Reducing Carbon Emissions
Goal
Simulate daily traffic in Dubai using available data
Description
The logistics landscape of Dubai has evolved with the economy development that led to an increase in the numbers of delivery operators and producers. This led to increasing traffic and carbon emissions and became a real urban mobility challenge. In this project, we address this challenge by building a simulation tool that can evaluate the impact of different policies on carbon emission reduction. Thus, providing policymakers with quantitative evidence to guide carbon emission regulation policies. Ultimately, this project empowers RTA with a data-driven decision-support platform that enhances the efficiency and sustainability of Dubai’s urban transportation ecosystem. Several ideas could be implemented to reduce Carbon emissions, including traffic consolidation. But the project is also open to students' ideas. The implementation will be on top of an existing traffic simulator and use publicly available data to tweak the simulator to the Dubai context. The simulator will then be used to estimate current carbon emissions, and test suggested carbon emission reduction ideas This project contributes to the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities Goal 13: Climate Action This project also supports RTA’s RDI Strategy pillars on Sustainability, Emerging & Seamless Mobility, and Operational Excellence. It also contributes to Dubai’s vision of becoming a global benchmark for sustainable logistics. The key beneficiaries of this project are the population, RTA, and urban planners.
